A Writer’s Journey
Ancara Imparo (Still I am learning) – Michelangelo di Lodovico Buonarroti Simoni
When I started my writing career (and back when I dreamed of being a writer, as a young girl) the industry was pretty much the same as it had been for decades. But in the last five years, we’ve seen the print industry shrink, and the face of the market for writers, change drastically. In order to remain both viable and relevant in my chosen profession, I (like many writers) have had to diversify, seek-out new skills and constantly keep an eye on the flux of our market.
During all of this, I have found that my love of writing has not diminished but grown. Each day, I find new ways to put my talents to good use — many times to help someone else’s business grow or get attention.
I’ve branched out from traditional media, like articles for newspapers and print magazines to blogging, e-Books, white papers and online zines. I continue to develop my existing skills and obtained new ones (like SEM certification, WordPress website development, branding and social media expertise) and married them to tools from past experiences in other fields (journalism, marketing, niche arenas such as cooking and health) in order to fortify my current offerings.
I now write, edit and proof just about everything under the sun.
Being open and flexible in a changing market, has help me grow, not only my business, but as a person, an artist and a freelancer. The work I do in the corporate and small business sectors feeds the work I do in journalism (and in my more artistic ventures into poetry, children’s books, short stories and novels) and vice-versa. The most interesting thing about being a writer is the constant desire, requirement, passion, whatever you wish to call it — to learn.
Writing, in any form, to me, is one of the most exciting things you can do on the planet. Each gig as a freelancer is an opportunity to learn, grow and inform or assist another human being in their journey. This is what makes me so passionate about what I do.
Whether you hire me to write optimized content for your site, a press release for your event, to help you write that book you’ve been dying to get out, or to whip up a piece on the hottest new restaurant in Portland, you’ll find me engaged and eager to give you the very best of what I have to offer.
I invite you to take a look around. Read a few posts or clips. Get a feel for who I am and then, if you like what you see, shoot me an email.
I’m excited to see what new discovery your project may bring.
